City Of Fiction
Australian Pavilion, 7th Venice Biennale of Architecture, 2000

Commissioner: Leon van Schaik

Architect: Lyons

Project Manager: Global Art Projects

City of Fiction was Australia's official presentation for the 7th Venice Biennale 2000. Initiated, developed and managed by Global Art Projects, this exhibition was the first Australian presence at the Venice Biennale of Architecture since 1991

The Australian Pavilion in the Venice Biennale gardens was transformed for the 7th Venice Biennale of Architecture into a giant cityscape by Melbourne architecture firm Lyons.

City of Fiction was a large interactive installation of brick sized postcards depicting Lyons' project work and design propositions. Postcards formed an abstracted image of the Contemporary City. Visitors to the exhibition were encouraged to take a souvenir postcard thereby changing the cityscape day-by-day.
