John Holding
Suburban Botanicals 2nd Edition
Suburban Botanicals 2nd Edition extends Holding's interest in the beauty of the everyday garden. This series of exquisite photographs of floral and plant life focus on light, colour and texture. Organic lines and forms allows the viewer to connect with nature in its simplest form. For Holding photography is learning, and the camera is the vessel through which he gains knowledge and the mechanism to discovery of the broad scope of life that surrounds him.
John Holding is a Melbourne based photographer. Photography has been somewhat of a revisit to his younger years when he had a darkroom in an old tin shed standing in his back yard. Despite the occasional forays into photography over the years it was not until retirement that time allowed Holding to have enough energy to be devoted to the camera. For close to a decade now Holding has explored many aspects of photography, from the simple use of the camera to the much more involved discussions on photography as an art and its true meaning. Combining his knowledge and experimentation has lead to the delicate beauty of this collection of images.
This was Holding's second solo exhibition of his Suburban Botanicals, his first being shown in 2012. That was followed by a number of exhibitions including at The Ramp Gallery MGA, The Thousand Steps Cafe, Season Restaurant, Tacit Gallery, The One Hundredth Gallery and six seasons of exhibiting in the Street Photography collective at the Victorian Artist Society.
