Global Art Projects (GAP) was engaged as art consultant to commission 2,500 photographs for 350 hotel rooms at Sofitel Melbourne On Collins as part of its room refit (2021-2022).

Sofitel Melbourne On Collins (part of the French Accor hotel group), has a strong interest in developing and maintaining connections between Australia and France through the look and feel of their luxury hotel and through strategic bi-cultural events.

The interior design intention for the refurbished rooms was that they have a Parisian apartment feel, populated with photographs hung in a traditional French ‘Salon’ style.

Building on the Australia / France connection, GAP commissioned new and existing photographs of Paris and Melbourne by artists Jon Rendell and Claire Ropartz which showcase the architecture and unique and iconic attributes of each city.

Over 2500 images were primarily printed in Black and White and Sepia tones with a small number of colour images, and are presented in a range of sizes, grouped in salon suites throughout the refurbished rooms.
